How The Immune System ACTUALLY Works - IMMUNE

    Sources & further reading:
The human immune system is the most complex biological system we know, after the human brain, and yet, most of us never learn how it works. Or what it is. Your immune System consists of hundreds of tiny and two large organs, it has its own transport network spread throughout your body. Every day it makes hundreds of billions of fresh cells.
It is not some sort of abstract entity. Your immune system is YOU. Your biology protecting you from the billions of microorganisms that want to consume you and from your own perverted cells that turn into cancer. It's so manifold that it is impossible to cover in one video, so we’ll make a series looking at different aspects of it.
Today, what happens when your body is invaded and your first lines of defenses are engaged in a fight for life and death?

Ohai! I’m Philipp, the founder and head writer of Kurzgesagt and author of IMMUNE! Let me say a few words about it: IMMUNE is older than Kurzgesagt and I began working on it about a decade ago in university. The idea was to explore a super important but also extremely misunderstood and complicated topic and “translate” it into a language everybody could understand. I’ve done my best to basically write a super long Kurzgesagt video but with less of the limitations of a ten minute video.
IMMUNE is a fascinating and fun journey through your own body, together we’ll be exploring mystery organs, murder universities, your enemies from viruses, bacteria and cancer (and how your immune system might have killed a cancer cell while you were reading the last few sentences) and the incredibly beautiful and amazing parts, cells and systems that keep you alive. After reading it you should not only gain a new appreciation for your own body but also experience disease differently. A flu or something more serious will not be this abstract thing but something you can sort of witness and imagine which mechanisms are active and which cells are doing what. At least personally, knowing how the immune system works always has given me great comfort when I felt unwell. Also 45 illustrated pages by the Kurzgesagt team make the book very pretty.
Preorders are incredibly important in the world of books so if you are considering getting it, it would mean a lot if you could do that. Because preorders determine if a publisher will try to get the book into bookstores, so a lot of the book’s success depends on it.
I’m incredibly grateful that so many of you have watched these videos in the last few years. And I hope you will give my first book a chance too. - Philipp

Imagine a game where you could play as the immune system of a person, controlling the cells to fight infections as the person grows and ages, and the better you play the longer your person stays alive. And all with Kurzgesagt's art style and music.
Edit: Ok, this blew up. I'm making it! Comment and I'll tag you when I have something playable or if you want to help. I've been dreaming about having a game like that since I was a child and will even put money into making it a reality. I'll try to contact Kurzgesagt about their style too, it would make anything better.

@Lucky Lucie also when you think about it, they need to just change the voiceover in order to put it on the germam channel, so partly the german citizens are paying for a part of the english videos as well. Which I like.

Their German BRclip channel is being financed by the German license fee (we citizens pay a monthly fee for the production of documentaries and other types of media, so they don't rely on views to make enough money). Kurzgesagt is part of the FUNK-program, which finances many scientific and journalistic BRclip Channels. I think I've seen some of their videos on TV, too. They were integrated into a moderated show about science, history and culture.
Their English Channel is, as far as I know, financed by sponsors and patreon.
They have an agency in Germany with several employees both for research and animation and if I remember correctly they offer animated sequences as commissioned work, too.
I'm so glad that they have so many sources of income which allows them to continue producing videos of such high quality!

      The Bible Contains Fulfilled Prophecy
The divine origin of the Bible is demonstrated through its frequent use of prophecy. Of all the “holy books” of the world, only the Bible contains accurate, predictive prophecy because only the God of the Bible knows the future and has the power to bring it to pass (Isaiah 46:9-12).

Question: Based on the very end of the video it seems those that work with their hands and thus receive more injuries over the years would have hands that heal quicker due to 'immunity' from the certain bacteria experienced in the past. My assumption is that you interact with the same bacteria (still might be in the thousands of variety) often if your environment doesn't change.
I am not trained at all in bio chem or medicine so this question might be so off it is confusing...

I can’t believe it! I studied a bit of immunology about some 7 years ago and told a few friends and family that everyday, microscopic wars are being waged every second right inside of us while we go about our daily lives.

@Chris Plaza The Britishers have a habit of saying "there is no free lunch". It's the same with v4ccines. You don't pay them as a citizen, at least not directly (maybe with your life, if it goes wrong). V4ccines are paid by politicians (governments) with our money from the budget, which is filled through taxes that they charge us even on a bottle of water from the store. Take a look at publicly available data on how many billions of dollars ph4rmaceutic4l companies have earned in the past year. Their incomes were huge before and now they have increased even more!

@Sentinel of the Old War The reason allergy is developed is literally due to B cells responding to allergens, which then differentiation happens producing antibodies which ultimately bind to mast cell. Upon second exposure to same allergen a mess thus happens by responses of the mast cells. In the process wrong stuff are adapted to unfortunately, cells have no brain that they won't know what are 'harmful' and what are not in the eyes of us, it is all about chances and unluckily if these B cell with genes corresponding to allergens are not eliminated, then you are developing allergy
And actually if innate part like a macrophage meet an 'allergen' nothing big will really happen, phagocytosis may happen, but thats all then and it is happening every second in our body, our phagocytes are taking things that are not even pathogen every second, the direct reason why allergic response happen is due to the ability of mast cell

    • Fire Blossom
      Fire Blossom Anos atrás

@Sentinel of the Old War I guess in allergy both innate and adaptive plays a role in it hmm
