Black holes are the most powerful and extreme things in the universe and they are wildly weird and complicated. What would happen if you fell inside one and what are they really?

Ok, phew. So we are done explaining any properties of black holes forever. If we ever talk about black holes in future videos we'll always link to this video. If you want to continue thinking about black holes a tad more, you can do so by getting one of the many black hole related things the Kurzgesagt team made with love:

I wanna take this time to thank the team at Kurzgesagt for existing, on behalf of the whole BRclip platform.

This brings back memories of three year old me, who was terrified of space because I thought if I ever went up, I’d accidentally find a black hole and be spagghettified.

It’s pretty cool how much about Interstellar is accurate. Of course they took some liberties about the inside of the black hole, but I think that’s okay because no one truly knows what happens inside.

As a kid, I was terrified at the thought of black holes. But at the same time completely intrigued. The universe is so vast, mysterious, and unforgiving, yet oh so beautiful.

i just noticed most of the things falling into the black hole in this animation are socks, its where the missing socks go. nice

Learning about the anomalies in space makes my head shrink in a good way. I feel so small and insignificant, and yet completely awed by the majesty of these celestial bodies. I love this channel. Please never stop making videos! 😊

Videos like this make me simultaneously terrified and inspired to learn more about the universe

You know, no matter how bad things get here on Earth, simply knowing about all the possibilities that lie out there in the universe...somehow feels reassuring.

The video is really good, the visuals always amaze me. However there are some errors in it, a few common misconceptions, that I thought would need addressing :

Man, even trying to conceptualize the lifespan of black holes hurts my head

When i learned about black holes as a teenager I had a theory about what would happen if I stuck my hand in the event horizon and came to the conclusion my hand would stretch out and spaghettify. I'm astonished I got that idea correct, after seeing this several years later! I love space and physics so much as a teen I actually programmed a space simulation of planets on my texas instruments calculator. I managed to make two objects orbit around each other using Newton's laws of physics. I'm obsessed with how they work and I've watched countless hours of simulations. It's just heartwarming to see that all those things I imagined many years ago are in coordination with these theories here.

I genuinely feel grateful to these birds for their acts of extreme sacrifices, just so we can know more about the universe. They don't seem to hesitate even when the narrator mentions certainty of death. Respect.

I've learned so much about space, astronomy and theoretical physics in the past 15 years, actually i know everything about black holes there is to know down to the hard maths.

  • Piguyalamode

A note that is weird: It is surprisingly hard to actually fall into a black hole. This is for much the same reason as it is surprisingly hard to fall into the sun. Namely, if you are in orbit around a black hole, you have to expend a huge amount of energy to slow down enough to reach the center(or let the accretion disk do this for you), and if you are not in orbit of the black hole (which is unlikely), your best bet to getting there is to go into orbit first and then slow down.

Okay but seriously, the illustrations are so good. The colors, designs, and style just fit perfectly together.
